Chains and links can represent our own family and the links that we have with them, we can feel bound to them at times. Sometimes we need to break a chain of events or feel like we are chained up to duty.
a. A broken chain will obviously symbolise a break in the links that you have made either to people or events, as in a break from the past, or from situations that cause restrictions to your freedom. Mankind itself is interlinked.

A chainsaw is used to break negative connections or ties to things that need disconnecting in a forceful way, you might need to disconnect from the past, or from people who have no more to really offer you. Cutting trees with a chainsaw means that you are bringing an end to growth. Cutting wood into smaller pieces can symbolise the act of cutting things into smaller chunks so that you can deal with them. A chainsaw is needed when the links are deep set or upheld by other people.

3. Charcoal
In the past charcoal was used as a good luck charm and can symbolise this for the dreamer, it symbolises plenty and warmth. In contrast to this charcoal can also be used to symbolise remnants from the past that still linger today.
